Natural Disaster Preparedness

As hurricane season approaches, we want to make sure we help provide you with tips and resources to keep you and your pets safe from the storms. 

  • Don’t leave your pet at home during your evacuation
  • Prepare a natural disaster kit to take with you, make sure to include:
    • food & water for a week
    • medicine
    • kitty litter
    • blanket
    • leash/harnesses
    • play/stuffed toy 
  • Make sure they have an updated collar with identification and contact number 
  • Find the appropriate shelter before you head out. Not all shelters and hotels allow pets, but there are great resources to help you find one that will take you both in. 

Since Hurricane Katrina in 2005, new laws are now in place that makes sure pets have a place to go during natural disasters.  Find shelters near you here, as well as pet-friendly hotels
