Why Do Cats Sleep So Much?
We’ve all heard of a cat nap, but anyone who…
Unfortunately, many times pet owners learn about pet insurance after it is too late- they are at the emergency clinic with a pet that is very sick or has sustained an extensive injury. Pet insurance cannot cover pre-existing conditions, so many pet parents have to look for other avenues to get the vet care and treatment their pet needs.
Here is a list of national organizations that provide financial assistance to pet owners in need:
The Big Hearts Fund– This organization offers financial assistance for the diagnosis and treatment of canine and feline heart disease.
Brown Dog Foundation– This organization is dedicated to helping families who find themselves in a temporary financial crisis at the same time their pet requires life-saving treatment or life-sustaining medications. They are designed as a one-time benefit. They are committed to maintain and strengthen the bond between pets and their families during times of unexpected financial crisis.
Canine Cancer Awareness– This organization helps sponsor the veterinary costs of dogs diagnosed with cancer for those families in financial need who would not otherwise be able to afford treatment.
The Dog & Cat Cancer Fund– The majority of this organization’s work is involved in helping needy families get treatment for their cats and dogs suffering from cancer. They offer treatment grants to help pet parents pay for their pet’s chemotherapy, surgery, radiation therapy and holistic therapy (including alternative medicine and acupuncture).
IMOM (In Memory of Magic)– This organization’s mission is to “help people help pets,” and have implemented a new program to help individuals have their pets spayed or neutered, especially caretakers of feral cat colonies.
Joshua Louis Animal Cancer Foundation– This organization was created to assist owners and families of pets who are in need of cancer treatment and provides grants for pets under the care of a board-certified veterinary oncologist.
Magic Bullet Fund– This organization helps people who have made room in their homes and hearts for a canine companion, but do not have the financial resources to provide cancer treatment.
The Mosby Fund– This organization was developed to assist in the care of critically sick, injured, abused and neglected dogs through financial support and public education.
The Onyx & Breezy Foundation– This organization provides funding and support for the following initiatives:
Paws 4 ACure– The mission of Paws 4 A Cure is to provide financial assistance to qualified families throughout the United States who cannot afford veterinary care for their beloved furry family members without help.
The Pet Fund– This organization provides financial assistance to owners of domestic animals who need veterinary care and their owners cannot afford expensive surgery or medical treatment. The Pet Fund works only on non-basic, non-urgent care, such as cancer treatment, heart disease, chronic conditions, endocrine diseases, eye diseases, etc. Eligible pet owners can apply for a one-time grant.
Pets of the Homeless– This organization’s mission is to feed and provide basic emergency veterinary care to their pets and thus relieve the anguish and anxiety of the homeless who cannot provide for their pets.
RedRover Relief– The RedRover Relief program provides financial and emotional support to Good Samaritans, animal rescuers and pet owners to help them care for animals in life-threatening situations and resources to help victims of domestic violence escape abusive environments with their pets.
Rose’s Fund– This organization will financially assist pet owners and Good Samaritans who have an animal with a good prognosis for a healthy life, but are at a financial loss.
Shakespeare Animal Fund– This organization helps elderly, disabled and those whose total income does not exceed the current poverty guidelines to obtain emergency pet care. They deem the following emergencies eligible for assistance:
Top Dog Foundation– “Bentley Grant”- The Bentley Grant program will provide financial assistance for dog owners and/or rescues/shelters, in conjunction with their veterinarians, in support of the care of a dog that would be otherwise unnecessarily euthanized due to age or health.
