Heart Health Awareness for Your Pet

February is American Heart Month and we want to make sure you have the information to keep your pet’s heart healthy for years to come.

Heartworm Disease:  Heartworm Disease is almost 100% preventable with medication. It’s important that your dog and cat receives consistent treatment throughout the year.  Regular check-ups with your veterinarian can ensure that your pet is heartworm free.

Heart Disease: Unlike heartworm disease, heart disease is less preventable. Heart Disease causes low blood supply leading other organs and muscles to weaken. Certain breeds are more susceptible to heart disease but early detection is key.

An early diagnosis allows you to provide your pet with the right medication, a customized diet and an exercise plan. There are certain signs to look out for to detect heart disease. If you observe any of these signs or symptoms consult your veterinarian as soon as possible.

Signs of heart disease:

  • Lack of energy
  • Lethargic
  • Coughing fluid
  • Fainting

PetFirst Pet Insurance is here to help with the diagnosis and treatments related to heart disease. Insuring your pet early helps to make sure that your pet is covered for any future accidents and illnesses. Get a quote today.
