Many pet parents wait all year long for summer to roll around so they can take trips with friends and family members. But what about our furry family members? Just because we’re hitting the road doesn’t necessarily mean they have to be left behind. 

In fact, nowadays it’s easier than ever before to take your dog on vacation with you. Some travelers even make a point of taking trips just explore with their dogs. 

If you’d rather not leave your dog behind for summer holidays this year, check out these five dog-friendly vacations! 

Los Angeles 

With palm-tree-lined boulevards, world-class shopping, endless dining options, rural hiking trails, and expansive sandy beaches, Los Angeles truly has it all. On top of that, it’s chock-full of pet-friendly amenities, making it impossible not to have a great time with your pup.  

Whether you want to hike in the Hollywood hills in search of that perfect view of the Hollywood sign, or stick to the coastal neighborhoods and stroll along the beaches, your dog will be right at home.  

If your itinerary happens to include an activity that isn’t dog-friendly, you’ll can find a dog walker or a doggy daycare to look after your pup for the day. Whatever you get up to, be sure to close out your day with dinner and drinks on a pet-friendly patio! 

Cancun, Mexico 

The idea of reclining on a poolside beach lounger in the warm tropical sun and having cocktails delivered to you surely sounds wonderful. Now just imagine if you could treat your dog to the same type of luxury - pet-friendly style!

Many of the all-inclusive hotels you’ve surely been eyeing are, in fact, pet-friendly. Some of them even have special services catering to pets, including pet-friendly menus, towel service, and more! 

On top of that, taking your dog to Mexico is quite easy in terms of immigration. All you need to prove is that his vaccines are up to date and that he is in good health.  

Vancouver, Canada 

Vancouver is a popular travel destination. Vancouver’s array of beaches, plentiful green spaces, a vibrant city center, and mountainous backdrop make it a stunning travel destination. 

Be sure to pack your hiking boots because part of Vancouver’s appeal is undoubtedly the plethora of outdoor adventures it offers, including hiking in the Coast Mountains.  

Of course, if you and your dog are looking for a more metropolitan experience, you’ll be happy to learn that the city is very dog-friendly.

Browse boutiques, sip locally crafted microbrews on pet-friendly patios, and top the day off with a visit to one of the many dog parks or off-leash dog beaches! 

As a bonus, taking your pet across the border to Canada is very straight-forward. Just be sure your dog has an up to date rabies vaccination and a certificate of health. 

Austin, Texas 

There’s no question that the culture in the “Live Music Capital of the World” is pet-friendly. Wander down the streets and you’ll find no shortage of water dishes and signs boasting things like “pet-friendly patio” or “dog parking.” You and your dog are sure to feel right at home! 

Austin offers no shortage of pet-friendly adventures, including the popular Zilker park. This  350-acre city park features hiking trails, expansive grassy spaces, and even a swimming hole! And Zilker isn’t the only park for your pup to enjoy in Austin. In fact, the city has 12 off-leash dog parks!

Albuquerque, New Mexico 

Soak up southwestern culture on a trip to Albuquerque with your pup. You can spend your days browsing art galleries, visiting nearby historical sites, national monuments, or artistic communities, or simply enjoying the natural landscape of New Mexico.
