Annual Care Requirements
What is this?
Some companies will put a clause in the general requirements section of their policy requiring you to administer and pay for all annual wellness and preventative care advised by your veterinarian, including dental examinations, teeth cleanings, flea/tick/heartworm preventative medications, vaccines, etc.
How does this affect you?
Routinely recommended preventative efforts such as vaccines, preventative medications and teeth cleanings can be expensive. A dental cleaning requires your pet to be sedated and can cost anywhere from $150-$350, and that doesn’t include the blood panel required to see if your pet is healthy enough to be sedated. If you cannot show proof, or if your veterinary records show you didn’t provide the advised vaccinations, preventatives, cleanings or treatments, the pet insurance company can deny your claims or cancel your coverage.
