We want to make sure that you have the information and resources to prevent dental disease with your cats and dogs. Dental health is important because it impacts the whole body. Bacteria from the mouth can spread to vital organs.  An estimated 85% of dogs over four years old suffer from some sort of dental disease. (Animal Planet Veterinarian Report). The most common of these conditions is periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is painful and costly, but it can be prevented.

Signs of Dental Disease:

  • bad breath
  • tartar build-up and brown teeth
  • red, inflamed gums
  • tooth loss
  • teeth bleeding
  • chewing on sides of mouth
  • decreased appetite
  • weight loss

Prevention:

  • regular brushing of your pet’s teeth with a formulated toothpaste (approved by the Veterinary Oral Health Council)
  • dental treats
  • snacks such as apples and carrots
  • annual dental exams with our veterinarian

If your pet does develop dental disease, PetFirst Pet Insurance is here to help cover the costs of the diagnosis and treatment related to the illness. But we encourage you to take the preventative steps today, get a quote here
