Help Clear the Shelters Day on Saturday, August 18

This weekend on Saturday, August 18 is Clear the Shelters Day, a country-wide pet adoption drive. Hosted by NBC and Telemundo owned stations and hundreds of shelters across the United States, the goal is to find a home for all of the animals in their shelters.

PetFirst is excited to partner with many of our shelter partners across the United States to help keep adopted pets in their future forever home. PetFirst believes educating new pet parents about the importance of pet insurance will help to keep adopted pets in their future forever homes. The number one reason pets are returned to animal shelters is because of the cost of medical care. Adoptive pet parents are far more likely to keep their new pet if they have insurance to help with the financial stress due to unexpected illnesses or accidents. Our goal on Clear the Shelters Day is to help make sure pet parents have the resources to keep their pets forever.

Health care for animals can be very costly, but with pet insurance from PetFirst, the costs associated with many treatments can be covered.  In celebration of this great event, pets adopted from any animal shelter across the country will receive a $10 discount towards their first month’s premium on a new policy by signing up online at

Additional information on Clear the Shelter Day and additional participating shelters can be found on their website at We hope you will join us to help find forever homes for the dogs and cats in a shelter near you, and make sure to follow us on social media for updates from around the country!
