2007 was the year of the bulldog it seems. In the 2007 breed popularity rankings released by the American Kennel Club, the bulldog made its first top 10 appearance since 1935.
Bulldogs have climbed from number 26 in 1997 to number 12 in 2006 before moving to number 10 last year. The AKC assigned rankings to 157 breaks from the 812,452 dogs registered last year. Almost 3% of those registered were bulldogs. Equally, 3% of PetFirst Healthcare’s pet insurance policies are for bulldogs.
So what makes the bulldog so special? Bulldogs are docile and adaptive and function well in families with children. Plus they’re pretty darn cute!
