Indoor Games for Your Pet
Those long, cold winter months can force you and your pet to be cooped
up indoors for months leading to boredom and anxiety. A good way to bond with
your pet while getting in some good exercise is to play indoor games. Here are
a couple games that will keep you and your pet busy:
PETFIRST TIP
Don't forget about
exercise! Even in cold
weather, consistent
activity is important to
maintain your pet's
weight.
-
Simon Says - This can also help with obedience training. Command your dog to
sit, lie down, stay, speak, or come, and reward him or her with treats for good
behavior.
-
Treasure Hunt - Tell your pet to stay while you go place a treat somewhere in
your house. Start off placing the treat in an obvious and close location. As
your pet gets better at hunting down the snack, move it further away.
-
Tug of War - Using a thick rope with knots in the middle, play a gentle game of
tug of war with your pet. Make sure you aren't pulling too hard on the rope
where it can lead to injury. Teach your pet commands like "drop it" in order to
avoid developing overly aggressive behavior.
